Family Friendly T.V.

Is there such a thing as family friendly TV? If there is , I haven't seen it. It seems anytime we sit down as a family & watch a tv show on one of the major networks something is said or shown that makes me squirm in my seat & I wonder if my kids caught it.....& sometimes it's just a commercial : ( So lately what we've been trying to do is borrow DVDs of older TV shows from the library. Right now we are on the 3rd season of " Daniel Boone" & we've started watching "The Waltons" too. I have to say I'm more into The Waltons. I remember watching it as a kid & I just love it!

There must be other older TV shows that are entertaining & family friendly. So tell me what have you watched with your family....what can you recommend? Leave a comment here or post something on your blog. I would love to know.

We don't have any children yet, but our two favorite shows are on PBS, History Detectives and Antiques Roadshow! Those are really fun shows and just goes to show the true nerds inside us! lol

other than that we really don't watch TV for the very reasons you just pointed out. Family friendly just doesn't seem to exist anymore. I have the whole series of "Road to Avonlea" on DVD which I LOVE... I would also like to eventually get the whole Little House series as well.

Those are probably my two favorite family friendly tv shows (and just my favorite anyway!)

PS... I hope to get my post on budgeting your $$ after bills up either today or tomorrow! thanks so much for reading my series!

We have been watching Family Affair. The kids love it. Uncle Bill smokes alot, but I just explained that back then they did not know the dangers. All 5 seasons are on DVD. We get ours from netfflix. All 5 seasons have 30 episodes. We are just starting season 2.

You must be young...Family Affair came on in 1961. 3 children whose parents died the year before move in with their bachelor uncle (Brian Keith) and his gentleman's gentleman (Sebastian Cabot) Very good show.

About the question you asked on my blog. I completely, without a doubt, do not believe Kyle's problems were the way God intended it. I think we live in a world where there is sin and sickness. A bad pertussis reaction did the damage. (My people perish for lack of knowledge...I was not educated on vaccinations) and I know, that I know, that, God took what satan meant for evil and turned it for His Glory! Amen!!!

The Waltons! Of course! I nearly forgot about them. So glad you posted about that. I've been on the Little House kick here but the Waltons would be great when we are done with that. I too loved the Waltons. Great family value show. Why don't we make stuff like that anymore???

You don't have to publish this comment, I just wanted you to know that I appreciated your kind words on my GF foods blog! I'd love to talk to you about my own struggles with GF (trust me, there are days when I cheat too! yesterday was one... and ohh how I wish I hadn't!!) Feel free to email me at gingerlemon_girl(at)yahoo(dot)com!

It's not mine, but I found a fantastic pizza crust recipe that we use on a nearly weekly basis (we love pizza) and it's really really awesome! You could easily make it!! I'd love to share it with you!!

So glad I found your blog through your comment on Ginger Lemon Girl.

I'm up to my eyeballs in cucumbers right now. Your relish looks great! That may be my next project.

I also saw your post about strep throat. I suffered through it two or three times a year, every year, while I was growing up. After reading some other blogs, I think this was probably a result of having celiac and not knowing it. Many others suffered repeat illnesses as well.

No, there is practically no family friendly TV anymore. If you find a decent show, the commercials are awful.

We don't watch network TV at all, really except for local news.

We watch the Food Network, and just mute it during commercials. Although, I was watching one show on Food Network once and the person said something bad. :(

We watch Antiques Roadshow and dh loves to watch old Westerns. He watches The Rifleman and also likes Daniel Boone when he can catch it on TV.

BTW-The Rifleman is an old Western that was on in the sixties.

Sometimes we watch old Western movies that star Gene Autry or other old-time stars. If Gene Autry is in it, you know it is clean.

That was a great point made about how even though the show may be clean, the commercials are awful! Some of the older ones mentioned our family loves - Family Affair, The Waltons, Little House On the Prairie, Andy Griffin. I always liked the Brady Bunch (too far back??) My guys like westerns - The Rifleman, Gunsmoke etc.
Family Friendly TV is a thing to hold on to.
